about

Writen in tribute to Johnny's father-in-law who passed away on 4/16/20.

lyrics

John Anderson died in the spring, and he left me with these wings
He said he didn't need them anymore
Long ago he learned that life was nothing but to sin
And letting go was the only way that he could even up the score

So he went down through the canyon to the water
He went down, where everything made sense
Well he left behind a loving wife and six strong, tall kids
He walked out in the forest, and they haven't seen him since

He was just a young man when he left for Vietnam
Came back home with a souvenir that left him with a limp
He tried to face the cold sweats and the nightmares that he had
But his country left him hanging like a thread

So he went down through the canyon to the water
He went down, where everything made sense
Well he left behind a loving wife and six strong, tall kids
He walked out in the forest, and they haven't seen him since

Years went by like a tiger in the night
He was on and off the bottle and the pills were his best friends
He tried to fight the good fight and it knocked him to the ground
But he stood right up and spit and said, "Let's go another round."

John Anderson died in the spring and he left me with these wings
He said he didn't want them anymore
Flying was for birds and planes and that just wasn't him
He'd get there on his feet just like he'd done a thousand times before

So he went down through the canyon to the water
He went down, where everything made sense
Well he left behind a loving wife and six strong, tall kids
He walked out in the forest, and they haven't seen him since

So he went down through the canyon to the water
He went down, where everything made sense
Well he left behind a loving wife and six strong, tall kids
And if you walk out in the forest, you might here him on the wind
